Whimsy Bike is for riders 16 and older; 16 to 18-year-olds need a parent or guardian's approval.

Who can use Whimsy Bike

Under 16: Whimsy Bike isn't for you yet.
16, 17 or 18: you can use it with a parent or guardian's approval. They agree to the Terms of Use along with you. A few things are set up differently (below).
19 or older: 19 is the age of majority in British Columbia. Everything is available.

How your age is set

You say how old you are when you first agree to the terms. It's kept only on your device, with your agreement, and never sent to us.

In the iPhone app on iOS 26 or later, Whimsy Bike also asks your Apple Account for your age range, using Apple's Declared Age Range feature; iOS asks you (or your parent's Family Sharing settings answer) whether to share it. If your account says you're under 19, "19 or older" isn't offered, and if a parent or guardian set your age range, the app uses it. The app checks again each time it starts. We only learn which range you're in, never your birthday, and it stays on your device.

What's different for riders under 19

Places that are 19+ in BC are left out of the map and search: liquor, wine and beer stores, cannabis stores, vape and smoke shops, casinos and bingo halls, and adult shops and venues.
The route choices are Chill and Fast (Comfortable and Balanced). The Direct and Whimsy options aren't offered.
While navigating, the screen shows the distance left, without speed, arrival time or how early or late you're running.
Nerd mode doesn't count which of its extras you use.

Bike share and e-bikes

Bike share companies set their own minimum ages, and the Province of British Columbia sets minimum ages for e-bike riders. Check the operator's terms and the Province's e-bike rules before you ride.

For parents and guardians

Whimsy Bike has no accounts, no messaging, no ads and no in-app purchases, and it never shares a rider's location. Questions or concerns: Support.
